Disposal of Accuchek Meters

We have implemented new Nova StatStrip for glucose POC testing. We have approximately 50 Accuchek Inform II meters to dispose of. Some are not that old. Roche understandably doesn't want them back. There isn't any patient demographic info stored on them. Does anyone know of any uses for them short of discarding them?

When we disposed of our old glucometers, I donated them to our local medical technology schools. In fact, we had students from a program in Michigan at our hospital and I reached out to their Director as well. I figured he could pick up the meters when he came to visit his students over the summer. In total, I was able to split the meters between 4 MT/MLT schools and some  labs that were taking them oversees to Africa. Good luck!!

We recently moved to a different arm band and are unable to scan the patient information in unless the Inform II meter is version 14.  We have several version 14 meters in place but are looking for additional meters with this version.  Please contact me if you have any available and we can discuss.

Thanks! I once taught in a lab program and learned how to scrounge. I would love to see them used somehow. I am not sure how well they will work as stand alone meters without a middleware database. I suppose they can all be programmed manually.

We were in the same boat.  Options for donation I found were: Insulin for Life (an Australian group that has a USA office) that would have gone to Haiti and the Congo for rural health clinic set up; and the BCVI (Belize Council for the Visually Impaired) also to set up rural health clinics, we had a medical mission trip with one of our doctors that was already set up to go to Belize and piggy backed on that.
