Cal verification/Linearity on iSTAT and templates

Two things:

1. During my last JC survey, the surveyor stated that calibration verification would no longer be required since an actual calibration is not performed. We are using the iSTAT now for ABG and waived Chem8+. We discontinued the troponin on the iSTAT, in a large part because the linearity material provided did not cover the lower AMR. Are any of you still performing linearity on the iSTAT?

2. Does anyone have an Excel template they use for plotting linearity? I don't have EP Evaluator and don't really need it for anything else.

There are free verification tools (including linearity) on that pill give you  the charts you need.

istat cal ver.xls

I have attached the template we use...

We still do AMR every six months on all cartridge types.  For Troponin I dilute the low end calibrator 1:5 or 1:6 to get down as low as possible and it works pretty well. It always has a little bias but the pathologist accepts it.  I'll try to send you a copy of what I do but Elizabeth's looks pretty awesome.   Ivy

Does anyone know for certain if calibration verification is going away for the istat? Even if it did wouldn’t you still have to verify your AMR twice per year?

Since we are CAP for mod-complex, we are still performing, as it is a mod-complex test and CAP requires it regardless of device type.  I am surprised JC would allow an opt-out - I would think the fact that i-STAT is "factory calibrated" that would be all the more reason to verify the calibration status.
