Battery Impacting Abbott Freestyle Glucose Meter Integrity
Hi all. Has anyone seen the battery causing errors in the Abbott Freestyle Glucose Meter, such as an increase Strip Port errors or loss of connectivity to the wireless system?
We changed our batteries to the PROCELL INTENSE (1.5V Alkaline AA) from the Energizer Battery. There was sudden surge of Insert Strip errors, which we corrected by replacing the Strip Port. Upon a whim, I started to just replace the battery, and it resolved the issue without the change of the s...

Training vs. Competency with POC
Within the lab, we are very aware that new employees must have a training document separate from their competency verification. However, for POC, we have always had a combined sign off form for both training and verification. During our recent TJC inspection, they stated this is not sufficient and the POC operators must be treated like the lab staff and have two separate documents.

iSTAT cartridge traceability
We recently participated in a TJC inspection and the inspector told us that we needed to be able to provide traceability on our iSTAT cartridges once they left storage. We currently have cartridges signed out based on quantity and labeled with RT expiration, however this is apparently not enough. He questioned how can we prove the cartridge was used within the appropriate timeframe and we should be able to trace each cartridge back to a patient.
