Criteria for when to Interface POC instruments

All:

As my organization continues to grow, we are looking to benchmark with other large hospital systems regarding criteria you might have for when an instrument is interfaced.  Since interfaces have an initial cost and annual maintenance fees, interfacing for an instrument should be justified.  The question is what is the criteria?  Do you consider number of tests reported from one test (ex.  Urine dipstick has 10 results), total number of tests performed per day, risk for manual entry of an incorrect result, etc?  Any help or ideas you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you!
