This can be accomplished through participation in a PPMP annual competency assessment. Each clinic has a "PPMP administrator" on site who is responsible for ensuring that each provider annually performs the required six elements of competency. These include: direct observation of patient testing; monitoring, recording and reporting of test results; review of intermediate worksheets and preventative maintenance performance; test performance (accomplished through the use of the MTS online program); and problem solving skills (microscopy quiz). Competency documentation is kept at each clinic at which the provider practices.
This program for PPMP was set up after an inspection Jan 2015 at a clinic by Joint Commission to upgrade them to a certificate of Accreditation due to adding the I-stat. It had nothing to do with the PPMP that was there, but an inspector can look at any and all processes and she focused on PPMP to "fill her day". I was not covering the Outpatient world at the time, so I am limited on details, that person resigned with a 2 week notice last March.
Hope this at least provides a starting point, and some ideas. The program satisfied the citation. If you want a sample form and quizzes, you can provide your e-mail.
I would love to see a sample form and quizzes. Please send them to:

Thanks!
do any of your OB PPM areas do wet mounts using KOH to look for yeast infections? if so, do you run daily QC? is there a daily QC available?
This is an issue that is now being addressed at our local OB/GYN. Competencies have never been done, hence my pulling up previous references to the subject. I’m in favor of the “PPMP Administrator” who would be responsible for this. At this level I would assume it would have to be a qualified provider, and then that individual would have to be assessed by a fellow provider?
May I get sample forms and quizzes please
