iSTAT in an Ambulance

We use our iSTATs primarily for neonatal transports. is anyone else doing this? If so, how are you verifying temperatures in the rigs? We do not store our instrument or cartridges in the ambulance when not in use, but we need to verify that while in transit the cartridges are maintaining the correct temperature...especially in the winter. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We use PWeb. I can click on Test Attributes and see the ISTAT temperature. The cartridges should be the same temp as the ISTAT.
Does it keep track of the temperature constantly, or just at the time of testing? We're mainly concerned about the time the instrument/cartridges spend in the ambulance when not being used for testing. Thanks!

I believe it is a snap shot at time of testing. You raise a good question. I thought that the rigs stay running and therefore maintain temperature. I will have to ask our Transport team. I would hate for them to have to carry a traceable memory thermometer with them and keep up with that documentation.
Agreed.....I fear that that is the direction we're going...I'm sure our RT's will be thrilled to hear that! *sigh*
WE have a MIN/MAX thermometer and temperature chart in each of the boxes where i-STAT and cartridges are kept.
We do too.
There is a very simple solution to your problem. Get a cooler box (controlled environment) and keep the i-STAT and reagents in it during the transport process. Keep a thermometer with a Max-Min inside the box to record the temp during transport or when in use.
