Good Morning, Does anyone have a scabies procedure for PPM dermatology they would be willing to share?

Hi Malinda,
Here is what I have. Hopefully you will find it helpful.

Is scabies or lice identification considered a PPM test that requires a CKIA permit? I have read the CMS PPM handbook and still questioning this?
Not that I want to now be known on the listserve as 'that gal with the scabies'!
I worked on CLSI POC10 in 2011 (years later, still creeps me out to see the imagines of the ecoparasites).
If your lab has a subscription to CLSI documents, in POC10, look up the section on 'skin scrapings'. We broke out a subsection to include 'ectoparasites'. We added a lot of images from contributors.
To answer your question, Tonya, here are the two our derm clinic uses off of the CLIA PPMP list which is online and is listed in the booklet you reference in your post (one of the derm MDs is on the CLIA PPMP as Lab Director):
Q0111 - Wet mounts, including preparations of vaginal, cervical or skin specimens
Q0112 - All potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparations
Sorry, I've got nothin' on lice and thank heavens, lice has got nothin' on me.
Peggy thank you so much for your reply. I will read the CLSI documents. I haven’t seen any scabies proficiency images available so I’ll plan to add my own scabies images to my derm PPM competency assessment. I appreciate you guidance. Tonya
