Urine dipstick readers and humidity
The issue we have here in the arid southwest has come to a head. We have Clinitek devices that state they must have at least 18% humidity. WE are quite often below that. In the past, we've just kept on going and crossed our fingers, because there's not much we can do about it. We have several sites where it has been an issue and we had to have humidifiers installed to keep the humidity above 18%. Our Infection Prevention folks do not like this, as humidifiers present a risk of contamination. It has gotten to the point of investigating other devices to perform urine dipstick testing. Does anyone have any experience with other (waived) devices? They need to be able to be connected to Telcor, and have a lower humidity requirement. Quite honestly, I believe the Clinitek works fine a lower humidity, but since Siemens is not willing to do any studies to prove that and change their operating requirements, we're stuck. Any thoughts? I'd hate to lose the hCG on the Clinitek but regulations are regulations.
