Refrigerator Temperature Documentation Ancillary Clinic

Good afternoon. I would like to know if any POCC out there oversee Ancillary Clinics in their institution that perform any laboratory testing. My question is, how do you document temperature on the weekends if the clinic is closed? Do you document "closed"? We had a mock inspection for Joint Commission and the surveyor stated for us to document "temperature within range" instead of closed. We have thermometers that display Min/Max readings along with the main temperature reading.

We use a continuous wireless temperature monitoring system as much as possible. When it is not possible we use min/max. We use this same setup for ambient and freezer temps and humidity.

My ancillary clinics use the same temperature monitoring system that the main hospital does. Senso Scientific monitors continuously and is set up to alert the clinic lead/designees if a temperature falls out of range. They get a text letting them know what the issue is and it is part of their responsibilities to reconcile that issue. I can go into the system at any time and pull up charts of the temperatures for any date range. Anytime there is an alarm(signal, battery, temperature), documentation is needed on what happened and what was done to rectify the issue.
Our clinics use the min/max thermometers. They make sure that the min/max is reset on Fridays or any day ( before holidays) that they will not be there.
On Mondays ( or day after the holiday) they read the min/max temperature and record those and they make sure the temperature did not go below or above acceptable range. If not, they have to do corrective action.
That is all the documentation the inspector wants you to show on your log.
Michelle Wilcox,
Do you have an email that I can reach out to you? I am trying to move our system into environmental monitoring because we have a lot of issues with consistency on filling out the temperature logs. I would like ot ask your opinion on the Senso System.

I know this is an older thread, but I've run into this question recently with some of my ancillary clinics as well. They use the min/max for the weekends (i.e. Min temp recorded for Saturday and Max temp recorded for Sunday) - what we are having an issue with is what to put when there are more than 2 days that the clinic is not open (i.e. 3 day weekend)? What are your suggestions? It seems like instead of recording a specific Min or Max temperature for a specific date, maybe we should just be recording the min and max for that date range and a comment that the temperature was within range during those dates - am I looking at this right? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
