Are any of you using Solaris PCR Flu platform? If you are, would you share any pros/cons or any information you can about this methodology. Some of our physicians are interested in it.
Â
If you are not using Solaris, but you are doing PCR or molecular Flu testing, which platform are you using?
Â
Any information will be tremendously appreciated.
Â
Thank you all in advance!!!

We use Cepheid, love it, and by the way, miss you guys. Worked with you briefly PRN 2006-2007
Thank you Paula for your feedback!!!!
Is Cepheid CLIA waived? We are looking for CLIA Waived PCR platform for Flu testing. Sorry I missed to include that piece of information.
Hi Slavica,
There are two platforms for Molecular testing, PCR and Isothermal. Cepheid has two models, one is waived and one is non-waived.
Each manufacturer has it's pros and cons, all are very good. Finding the correct fit is most important.
PCR:
Sekisui - Silaris (waived) flu only
Roche - LIAT (waived) flu, strep, RSV
Cepheid - Xpert "Xpress" (waived) flu, strep, RSV
Cepheid - Xpert (non-waived) flu, strep, RSV and many other assays.
Isothermal:
Abbott - ID NOW (waived) flu, strep, RSV
We are using Cepheid Xpert Xpress, PCR
Have a great day!

Have a terrific day!!

Thank you Patty!!

Another factor to consider is the storage requirements. Last I knew the Liat had refrigerator requirements and the Cepheid did not. For high volume areas this can be a big deal.
Also, I always look at what else is coming out on that testing platform. If you are running it as a moderate complexity plateform, the Cepheid has a lot of other test available.
We use the ID NOW, and have no complaints so far.
