i-STAT BUN Reportable Range

How do you all verify the upper limit of 140mg/dL for BUN? I can't find any LVM material that comes close. Abbott goes up to 114mg/dL and Eurotrol only goes up to 94mg/dL. Now that the CHEM 8 is moderately complex we are going to have to verify the reportable ranges every 6 months.

Idea is to stop reporting at 110? In other words shorten your reportable range.

This is one of my biggest complaints with POC Manufacturer's. They give you an AMR that is wider than the material can validate. I have had to adjust many of the AMR limits on several POC platforms. Just make sure that you have a policy stating the criteria used to validate the values. i.e. CLIA tEa limits or a set percentage (I use a set percentage, much easier than tEa).

We dropped the top of our range down to 125 for that reason. With the calibrators you can then get within 10-15% of that which is acceptable if your medical director says so.
