Roche Inform II Glucometer Durability

Our parent company is mandating a conversion from Abbot Precision Xceed Pro to Roche Inform II glucometers.
Despite the rugged design of the Precision Xceed Pro, I often have at least one unit out at a time for replacement (usually drop damage) and wish I had more units on hand for when this occurs. I am trying to take damage/return issues into account for my initial unit request.
The Inform II meters do not look as rugged as the Precision Xceed Pros. Can anyone offer experience on their durability? Do they often break when dropped? Do their screens stop working or become damaged due to frequent sanitizing? Other durability issues?
Thank you!

I think they’re pretty rugged. But, we do have to replace them pretty frequently. Some of the floors can be pretty hard on them. We have 170ish glucometers, 4 loaners, and usually have 2-3 out for replacement at any given time.

I have a lot of breakage in the high use areas. The PXP meters are top heavy, so when they are dropped they go top down and crack around the strip port. Also, the top part of the strip port breaks offs or the strip port becomes dysfunctional. Abbott will send replacement strip ports. And they have a quick turn around time for complete meter returns/replacements.
Best Wishes on meter replacement. It is a feat.

Dear Ken,
On the INFORM II, using bleach wipes does leave a residue depending on which wipes/dwell time or if meter just 'wiped to clean' and not disinfect.
During training (and troubleshooting) we find it helpful to give tips on improving 'connecting' to the base related to potential build up of the meter and base contacts.
We find that Roche Tech Support delivers very good customer support. They will help testing sites consider that potential residue as a reason the meter/base lacks proper transmission capability.
Ditto Penny's 'it is a feat' to do a meter conversion.
We have had Roche for over 10 years--it was here when I got here. They are very durable. We have around 100 and I can go quite a while before I have meters that need to be turned in.
The biggest problem I have is that the nursing unit might not get the meter set in the docking station "just right" and then it goes dead. They complain about it not working, but I bring it to the lab and dock it and it works just fine.
The biggest issue is that it has a rechargeable battery. The nurses' can't change it and it does take a while to recharge if the meter has been off for some time.
But, the port doesn't get as contaminated as I have heard the Abbott ones do.
And yes, changing meters is brutal...good luck
