Competency/ Training Checklist for POCC

Is true competency required for a POCC if we are not performing patient testing? If so, who signs off? My manager is asking what proves that I am competent to perform POC competency? I have a delegation statement signed by my medical director. Is that enough? We are CAP accredited.

Thanks again. Y'all are the best!

Jennifer,

Do you have a written policy for how your program POC Training and Competency programs are conducted for the testing personnel? Including 'passing criteria'.

Also, on the delegation statement you mention, is it clear what the criteria is that the medical director has set that you have to 'meet' to show you are competent to conduct  competency assessments (CLIA role of 'technical consultant')?

A lot of times, managers/bosses get confused about the POCC doing the competency assessment (role) but not actually having to be competent to perform testing since they are not testing personnel (role).

They do not understand that's two separate roles and two separate competencies. If the POCC conducts assessments but also does perform then the POCC does have to have both competencies (for both roles) documented.

I hope this makes sense the way I typed this.

My medical  lab director signs off my annual competency based on my job description. The other tech who helps me with POC activities signs off on the  Tests Checklists that we do in the hospital and clinics. I print copy of the certificates after I complete the Healthstream modules and attach those to the Checklist I give to the medical lab director.

I tried to attach the checklist and job description but could not. It does not give me the option to go to my files.  Send me your email privately to PManiquis@primehealthcare.com if you are interested.

Thanks Pet! I will email you!

Peggy, would you mind if I sent you a copy of the delegation to your email so you can tell me your opinion on the language I used?

Peggy and Pet,

Thank you for this information! I have wondered this myself.
