HepCon

The perfusion department in my facility would like to trial the HepCon. It would replace the Hemochron. I have requested that they consider the ISTAT ACT to avoid adding another platform. Does anyone have any information on the Hepcon verses the Hemochron or ISTAT ActK?

Sylvia,
I have information about converting from the Hemochron to i-STAT ACT-K. We converted in 2005. If you would like to contact me privately please see below. Feel free to call as well.

Thank you Andrea. We are in the process of doing a correlation between the Hemochron and ISTAT ACTk. I am looking more for information the Hepcon HMS and how it measures the Activated Clotting Time (ACT) and heparin concentration. Is it really better/ more accurate than the ISTAT or Hemochron.
Hi Sylvia,
I am a huge Hepcon fan. The Hepcon (HMS plus) provides so much more information than just an ACT. Over the years, I have seen multiple cases where the ACT was
well above target but the heparin concentration was below target and thus, they gave more heparin. Did your perfusionists explain why they wanted to convert? We also have istat ACT for our Cath Lab and CVICU but it only reports out ACT. It is the back up for
our HMS. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Hi,
Our perfusionists have been using the Hepcon since 2001 and would not consider going back to the Hemochron. They use it during bypass and needs the heparin concentration and ACT and the Heparin Protamine titration. They are workhorses too.
