COVID Testing in Pediatric Clinic Settings

I am coming in late to this COVID testing game so pardon me if this a a repeat question for y'all. I've been asked to investigate the BinaxNOW Covid19 Antigen card for our 23 Pediatric Clinics. Any advice would be gratefully accepted as far as reporting and management.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jennifer,
We were going to look into the Binax but our rep told us they were not available to purchase.  Did you rep say that they were now available for non government use?

Interesting, I didn't realize that. The request was just sent to me and I my research started with the experts! Are there any other kits out there that would be appropriate for a clinic? Our lab uses the the IDNow for rapid testing.

We are in the same boat.  Our clinics want to use the ID Now but our Med Dir is not happy with that and neither is POC.  It wouldn't hurt to check with your rep to see what is now available.

I've sent them an email. I will let you know what I find out!

Same here as Adonica writes. We aren't expecting to get product.

I am having to bring on the BinaxNOW for the nursing home that is associated with our hospital due to the government requirements, but even for our nursing home, they are having a hard time locating any stock aside from what was sent to them by the government.  Our Abbott rep told us that it would be a long time before the product is available to order since the government obtained so many.  I also just brought on the BD Veritor for the nursing home as that is the first Covid test that was sent to them and then about a week later they were sent the BinaxNOW kits.  You might have more luck getting supplies for the Veritor in the meantime.  As a side note - has anyone else noticed issues with back orders on other POC test kits such as pregnancy, strep, and flu?

Thanks you! I didn't realize BD had a test cartridge out. We are currently using the Veritor system for Influenza.

I haven't been told we are having issues in obtaining other POC kits... yet...

We are interested in these as well. We were told there was a government contract out that needed to be filled first before we could get any. The proposed date was first of the year.

Our Abbott rep said the Binax card may be available for purchase the first of the year, once they fill the government order. Our nursing home received 400 cards but will not receive anymore and then move to the BD Veritor that has been sent out.   Does anyone know if the Veritor is available for purchase (to run Covid) now? Our ED has mentioned this product to free up some reagent/time, our main lab uses Cepheid

On the BD Veritor COVID19 reagent and the reader being available - unsure at the moment. We could not find the reader to purchase about a month ago when I was looking for a back-up product for strep/flu/RSV. We used Veritor in the past and our operators liked it alot. The cost per reader according to what our purchasing agent said was minimum $350/per reader but could not find any for sale.

We are unable to get Quickvue preg kits from Quidel

Is the change to only run symptomatic patients within the first 5-7 days of onset of symptoms an issue for you?

Did anyone receive the BinaxNow cards yet? Do you have any information on ordering information on the recommended capped transport tube needed to send the swab to the lab?
