Istat EG7 and CG8 iCa issue

Good morning all,
How has everyone handled the change in room temp storage for the Istat cartridges for iCa?  Have you decided to disable the iCa or are you keeping the cartridges refrigerated until use?  I just found out about it and I'm trying to figure out how we want to handle it.

I just finished meeting with my Medical Director. We are going to disable the iCa for all areas except our perfusionists. The perfusionist group will take CG8 cartridges out of the refrigerator as needed. They are a small and trustworthy group so I am not worried about them.
Our ED and OR are the biggest users of the CG8 cartridge, they plan to send a sample to the lab if they need a calcium.

We are only taking enough cartridges out to use in 3 days.  I have notes on the refrigerators and stickers on the box that the cartridges now have a 3 day outdate.  The lots we have right now have a 3 day out date so I just went with that.  Our OR uses the most cartridges and they said they needed the iCa.  So turning off the channel was not an option.

We decided to disable the iCa in all areas. RT did not want to mess with a different outdate, especially considering the timing of this notice. No one seemed to care too much but we do carry a Chem8 so they are able to use that if they do need an iCa POC. Otherwise they will send to the lab. And we hope that the issue is in the process of being resolved...

We are keeping them refrigerated until use. Only one location is using the EG7+ cartridges, they don't use them that often, they usually don't keep them at room temperature. They needed the iCa.

We have put labels on all the boxes of CG4+ and EG7+ cartridges with the new RT expiration.

We have changed our remove from refrigeration expiration date from 2 months to 3 days.  Leadership on the floors has been notified and are rounding to address this change and of course the POC team.  The physicians have been notified of this issue by the lab Medical Director.

I am behind. Can someone share what the new exp date is for iCa? We are planning to go live with the iSTATs at the end of Jan. Any help would be appreciated.

We have chosen to block iCa from our CG8s except for the main lab. They are available on the Chem8 or if a cap specimen is needed, it gets sent to the lab for testing. If you are not aware of this latest Abbott saga, go to their website. I got a call from my regional manager last Tuesday and got the email after I left that afternoon.

We have disabled iCa for RT use but kept it enabled for OR, outdate for OR is now 3 days.  iCa is available on Chem 8 in the Lab if they want it.

We use both the CG8+ and EG7+. The CG8+ we are going to keep in the refrigerator until use because the departments utilizing this cartridge are low volume. The EG7+ we turned off the iCa and are having our departments run the Chem8+ test cartridge for the iCa since it was unaffected.

We are disabling on the floors, but keeping active on the lab analyzer (we do ionized calcium on the iSTAT in our lab). Staff has been notified to send green top without gel for testing.

We disabled the iCa. We have an alternate iCa method in the lab. If an iCa is needed a sample can be sent to the lab.
