Acceptability Limits on ABL90s

Hi everyone,

I'm new in my POC role and need some guidance on how other institutions establish acceptability limits for your blood gas analyzers, particularly ABL90?  Our current acceptability limits in our SOPs do not make any sense and I have no idea where they came from.

Thank you,
Chloe

Do you mean the reportable range?

Ah yes, the ABL90 analytical measurement range. We implemented the ABL90s last October and went through much to do about the AMR. The manufacturer lists two different AMRs, one for "Reportable Range" and one for "Range of Indication". The "Range of Indication" is wider and has a disclaimer to the effect of "The Rando of indication is the range the analyzer is capable of measuring and includes values outside the Reportable range. The performance of the analyzer outside the Reportable range specified in the Specifications chapter has not been validated." on page 374 of operators manual.  You can look there and then also look at the Verification study that was performed when implemented at your institution. The documents should still be available.

Good Luck!

We run the VK5 kit and try to match the AMR from the main lab ABL835s.  We try to set recoverable ranges so we are not changing AMR from lot to lot.

When we run the Cal/Ver kits, we check the AMR of each parameter.    We usually don't have to adjust any ranges, or very seldom.
