Is anyone aware of a way to connect these bilirubinometers directly to Epic? We're exploring connecting with Telcor, but I wonder if there's an easier way.

I have investigated these a couple times: They do not take an actual specimen from the patient and are not documented in the laboratory records of the patients Electronic Medical Record. (Same reasons we do not manage transcutaneous thermometers on the floors.) Therefore they do NOT fall under the umbrella of the laboratory oversight. When the L&D's obtained these meters we did work with L&D to complete a correlation study that they performed but we do not manage them in any fashion.
I would worry that pushing these results through QML would open you up to requiring you follow all lab regulations regarding them, perhaps you are already doing this however.
You are correct that this device is not covered under CLIA, as a specimen is not taken from the patient for testing. Our POCT team would not be involved with the testing; they have just requested that we give them an option to interface the results to avoid manual entry issues. I don't believe it would open us up to following CLIA regs, as the test still would not be CLIA-regulated. I would rather not be involved with the testing, but we can't just ignore the request. I'm trying to find out if there is a way for them to interface directly with Epic, to take POCT out of the equation.
We recently interfaced our clinic Draegers with RALS. We are not managing the devices, but they wanted to stop manually entering results in Epic. It has worked well; the only issue is that the barcode scanner on the device can be a little difficult to use so we sometimes get results with no operator or patient ID and have to follow up with the clinic.
