Aloha all,
Would anyone be willing to share their definition of critically ill for their NICU/PICU population in relation to glucometer usage? In addition the manufacturers limitations, do you have a set criteria or is it left to providers discretion?
Feel free to directly email: shana.gaug@kapiolani.org

A critically ill patient is defined by the hospital/ medical center. It is not left to a providers discretion. You should have this statement in you SOPs or readily available for Joint Commission or CAP. They both usually ask for it. At the organization I currently work for it is in our SOP so that everyone that uses the glucometer knows. At my previous organization, the statement was buried in files in my office form the previous POCC. I had to find it during an inspection.
