ABL90 Flex Plus vs. GEM5000

We currently using the Avoximeter for Co-ox testing and would like to add blood gas testing in our Cathlab.  We are looking at both the ABL90 Flex Plus and the GEM5000.  Anybody want to share their thoughts on pros and cons of the Radiometer ABL90 Flex Plus vs. Werfen GEM5000?  Any thoughts, comments, or complaints are welcome.

I am a huge fan of the GEM 5000s. The main reason is that they run 5 levels of controls and calibration on a continuous basis (every 30 minutes to 24 hours). Because of this, twice per year linearity and an IQCP is not required.

Tiana, my Health System has the Gem 5000.  I do love it as it’s very hands off.   And as you stated, doesn’t require an IQCP.  However, we still must perform an AMR twice a year.  How are you getting around this?

We use the ABL90 in our cath labs and our main lab has the GEMs. One difference I have seen is the GEMs take longer to run the test, the ABL 90 provides the result much faster- which is why our cath lab wanted the ABL over the GEM. The only downside with ABL is dealing with Aqure support and Radiometer- they can be a pain. We do not have an IQCP, but we do run our 6 month function checks with Cal/ver, AMR and correlations for our ABL 90.
