New POCT fibrinogen device

Has anyone heard of this device by Stago, qLabs FIB? It performs fibrinogen. I couldn't find it on the FDA website to see if it's approved for use in the US. I'm sure it will be useful, once it is approved. I'm just surprised that there hasn't been any buzz on it in any of the lab magazines or anywhere.

Haven't heard of it either, but I'm curious, what is the value in POC fibrinogen as a stand-alone when most settings that require that in a near-patient setting are probably already doing TEGs, where functional fibrinogen is assessed anyway?

One of our pathologists saw this, and he's interested in it for our local Women's Hospital. Fibrinogen can help them assess delivery complications (DIC) and is much less expensive than TEG or other viscoelastic testing. As far as I know, the devices aren't approved for L&D use. Fibrinogen is part of our emergency hemorrhage panel, along with H/H and platelet count. The ability to get a value earlier could be important.

very interesting - thanks Kathleen!

Hi all, I am from Stago and unfortunately, the qLabs FIB device and reagents are not available in the US at the current time, and we have no timeline for future availability. We offer plasma-based fibrinogen tests using the Clauss method at the current time.
