We have been having issues with one of our Avox machines frequently failing QC. We cleaned the lens, eventually switched QC manufacturers and still no luck. Calibration is even failing. We took it apart the other day and I was shocked to see lots of green metallic corrosion inside of it on the casing (none on the electronic board). Then we opened up the lens and saw rust all over the hinge. We took apart a second machine to see if they were all potentially like this and found actual moisture in between the black casing the lens is housed in. Anyone have any experience with this? Tech Support couldn't tell me if it was normal or not. See pics image002 (1).pngimage001.png
We have taken our AVOXimeters apart multiple times and never seen anything like that. It looks like someone is using a cleaning product on your instrument.
Wow! I'm considering an AVOX for the Cath lab. This if very good information as I did not expect to see something like this could happen to the Avox. I will definitely keep this in mind when evaluating the instrument.
Thank you Maureen - we thought that could be a possibility too but the department denies it. We also are exploring if some kind of condensation could be happening within this specific room but our temperature monitoring isn't showing evidence of that.
Very timely as I just had BioMed do the semi-annual cleaning of our Avox 1000E today. He said he did not see any signs of moisture or corrosion. We've had ours for 3 years and have the optical cleaning done 2X/year.
We have used the Avox product for years and I have never seen anything like that. We do clean the optics twice a year. I would say it looks like something leaked into the cuvette opening or there is condensation somewhere. Is the instrument located next to a sink or safety shower? Has the procedure room been closed down for any leaks? It could be from cleaning products or maybe one of their saline IV bags broke and leaked on the instrument.
Hell0- Yes, I too recently was with BioMed when they opened up our AVOX 1000. I have similar pictures. Our AVOX is at least 10 years old and this is the first time we have seen this. There was purple dried fluid from the QC and old blood; so, I believe some operators were a bit too rough. We cleaned it up and most of the corrosion cleaned up too. We are looking into other devices to replace the Avox and also can be more interface friendly, bi- directional and lock-out operators.
