What frequency are you all using for iSTAT liquid QC?  Is everyone still doing "prior to use and monthly" for each cartridge lot?

Prior to use for each new lot / new shipment, and monthly on each I-Stat.

That is what we do here.  That was justified with my IQCP risk assessment and approved by the Laboratory Director.

  1. Once per lot
  2. Once per shipment
  3. Once every 30 days if not superseded by 1 and 2
  4. For each new user

All of these are listed in our IQCP risk assessment documents with approval and subsequent annual review by the CLIA Lab Director.

a little background.  The iSTAT manual (Art: 714376-00AB Rev. Date 13-Mar-2024) requires for waived and if moderate/waived both in same unit/area - see excerpt below. However glucose is no longer waived so APOC will likely update with Nov CLEW. But these are only mention of monthly.  Section 12 Quality Control does not mention monthly - so could you write and IQCP for non-waived that would not require monthly?

Yes, prior to use and monthly.  We do the prior to use QC and the nurses/RTs do the monthly QC on all the Istats.  We do not QC duplicate cartridges, for instance if a unit does CG4 and Chem8 and they use an EG7 they do not have to QC the EG7 cartridges.

We Qc monthly and every shipment.
