Medtronic HMS+ interface to EPIC

We are currently in the process transitioning to EPIC from Soft.
While validating, we have discovered that the EPIC patient barcode has AC in the front of the patient numerical CSN# ID on the armband barcode.  This makes the patient ID 13 digits.
When scanned, the HMS+ is cutting off the last digit of the patient ID and therefore results won't interface.
Did anyone else experience this issue with the HMS+ interface to EPIC?
The HMS+ runs through RALS.  RALS doesn't recognize the patient ID and therefore is held up with the flag of invalid sample ID.
Thanks!

We had this issue many years ago when we transitioned to Epic. We had to get a fix from RALS to ignore the AC and only use the numbers. As I recall, they charged us for this enhancement.

We had a similar problem with our Medtronic ACT+ devices.  I had to work with Zebra scanner tech support, since the ACT+ uses Zebra scanners (I'm not sure which scanner the HMS+ uses).  They gave me a list of commands to scan ('begin new rule', 'code 128', 'skip ahead 2 characters', 'send all data that remains', 'save rule').  Be really clear about which type of barcode you want truncated and which types (if any) you want to stay the same, e.g. user IDs, cartridge lots, etc.

All of our i-Stats and HMS's do this when they scan the label.  They're called leading and lagging check digits.  RALS is able to build rules to remove them.  Be sure to include the option to remove not only alphanumeric, but also symbols.  A couple years ago we started seeing punctuation (ex. !, ; &) as lagging check digits.

Hi Deborah,

The barcode readers come with instructions to program them for truncation. If you program the barcode scanner to truncate the first two letters (AC), then only the 10 digit CSN will be recognized.

Thanks,
Kim
