Clintek Status Connect QC Settings

Some of my clinics are having issues with the Required QC on the Clinitek Status Connect system. I have it set for 30 days, 1 set at 6am. They run it and then it will lock them out before the 30 days. Has anyone had this issue? I am racking my brain because all the settings seem to be correct for requiring controls every 30 days.
Also, does the system show any "prompt" when QC is close to being due?
Anyone use the "Buffer" to give extra time for them to be able to run QC?

I ran into that issue with our Clinitek Status Plus (we require QC weekly). I spoke to tech support and they explained to me some of the reasons that the Clinitek might continuously prompt QC even before QC should be due:

The QC prompt will activate on the day and time specified by the QC interval no matter what. This means any QC ran for any other reason, during your 30 day interval, will not satisfy the QC interval requirement. It will still prompt every third Monday at 0700, for example. Also, the time specified for the QC interval is very strict. So if the QC interval is set for Monday at 0700, performing QC at 0657 will not satisfy the requirement. The only way to satisfy the QC interval requirement is to perform it at the correct time, after the instrument initiates the QC lockout.  It will keep prompting you if it thinks that the QC interval requirement is not met.

However, using the QC Buffer setting will allow you to run QC at any time on the day of your scheduled monthly QC, and have it count toward your QC interval requirement.

To set the buffer for an entire day, I set the QC time to 11 pm, and set the buffer to 23 hours.

Another tip from tech support: If the user does not hit "done" after running QC, the instrument won't recognize that QC was performed and the QC interval will not be satisfied, even if there is a printout that says QC Passed. Oftentimes, a user will run Level 1 QC, then hit "done," then run Level 2 QC and walk away. If they come back and find that QC is completed, the instrument still would not recognize that the interval requirement has been fulfilled unless the operator presses "done" after Level 2 QC has ran. The Done button is what activates the instrument to accept that QC has been performed.

Why is QC only once every 30 days?

In the hospital lab, clinitek QC is every 24 hrs. Why is it once every 30 days in the clinic?

Thanks,
Alma

We have had the same issues as Claire described - people run it too early or forget to press "Done".  If they press "Done" the next day, it resets the QC due date.  Also, if they miss their QC due date and run it the next day, it will reset the schedule to that day.  It can be very frustrating, as we need to go onsite and reset their dates, and we often need to remind staff that QC needs to be done AFTER the scheduled time ON the scheduled date.  Our Clinitek QC is required on a weekly basis for POC.

Alma- she is probably referring to the urine HCG on the Clinitek Status Plus.

We have the same issues.  Exactly what Donna mentions above!  We have it now where the operators are trained if you see the QC due and you can't do patient testing, then just do the QC and then let us know if they think they are doing excessive QC.  We also monitor it so we can see that.  If an area ends up doing QC twice in a month or so, we typically don't worry about it.
