NovaNet Issues

We currently have our Nova glucometers connecting through NovaNet, to RALS, to Epic. There seems to be recurrent issues with NovaNet servers going down or ADT data overloads preventing our results from finding the correct patient to tie back to.

While we wait for Nova to come back to full functionality, we're looking at options to bypass it completely. So 2 questions for folks that are using Nova meters:
1. Did you have issues over the weekend that carried over through this week where users would get an "unknown patient ID" on every single test due to missing ADT feeds? If it was only us - this isn't a NovaNet issue as our local IT group is saying.

2. How are you connected from meter through to your HIS? Is it possible to connect directly to RALS without using NovaNet at all since we only use it as a passthrough currently anyway?

I also use NovaNet. I go NovaNet to Telcor QML to Epic. I did not have any issues this past weekend or this week.  Have you spoken with Nova Tech Support? The issue is likely with your server.

We don't use NovaNet. We use RALS as our middleware to EPIC.

We use NovaNet to Telcor to Epic.  We haven't had any increase in issues like you describe above.  We usually have some patients that don't get the ADT feed into Telcor right away, but not all of them.

We use NovaNet to Telcor to Oracle (Cerner). We have not had anything unusual happen recently.

I am not sure you cannot use NovaNet since controls/strips are communicated through that server to the analyzers, unless there is something I am not aware.

We also used NovaNet because we were led to believe from our sales rep that we had to. Not true! We just merged this past weekend with another organization and now have our StatStrip meters connected through RALS. You can do everything in RALS that you did in NovaNet.
However, I believe Nova is experiencing some type of network outage, as I called to replace 5 meters (sigh...again...) and they are unable to give me a case number or ship out replacement meters until the system is back up. As far as I know, it has been down since 7/22.

We don't use NovaNet either. We use RALS as our middleware to Cerner.

We have never used NovaNet.  We use RALS as middleware to Meditech Expanse

We don't use NovaNet.  We are connected directly to RALS

To all the folks here that do not use NovaNet- what happens when you need to do a firmware update?
Does anyone use the newest generation of the Nova StatStrip, or are considering the next generation of meters?
I am made to understand that NovaNet must be used to manage the new meters.  We are looking to get the new devices when we renegotiate the next glucose contract.  Any thoughts??

We also use NovaNet then RALS then Epic because we were told that we had to. Unbelievable. It would be so much easier to have the meters just talk to RALS.
At the beginning of July we had issues with results going from Nova Net into RALS. I had to get someone from NovaNet to reset something in the NovaNet server.  Sometimes our IT person would reset something if I couldn't get NovaNet right away and this worked temporarily also. These resets would fix it for a day or 2 then it would happen again. Nova told us they had no idea why the results weren't crossing into RALS. After about 2 weeks of this they convinced us that a server upgrade to the latest version would solve the problem. It actually did, at least for now.
I'm also waiting for return numbers for 2 meters that are broken. Called a week ago.

Hi
We use the older version of the StatStrip. Our configuration is meters - RALS - Meditech.
Erica is right about connection/updates -when you aren't connected to NovaNet the meters do not get automatic updates. RALS used to update the meters but that changed at least 3-4 years ago.

They had a really big backorder issue almost the entire month of June into July.  Had just under half of our meters die during the first couple of weeks of June) and it took into July for them to get replaced.
Was told that NOVA is honoring our contract with "older Version" meter replacements but that at the end of our contract - early 2027 we have to switch to the newest version, and we HAVE to get NovaNet.  The only problem with adding NovaNet is the $$ to add 2 more servers (production and test) as well as additional server maintenance for IT.

We use Novanet to RALS to EPIC.  Interesting that we may not need NOvanet, because we were told we absolutely did.   I had held out on getting the nova meter for the critically ill because I am not a fan of Novanet or the statstrips connectivity.  Well, we decided to make the transition and the ADT on our NOvanet TEST server has been down since 7/22 and we have been unable to test.....ugh.  I am very familiar with the statstrips as we have them at another facility I oversee, this is why I know all about Novanet and the connectivity of the Nova glucometers.  I wondered why they had ethernets in at least one statstrip per floor.  I soon learned why.......the wireless goes down or fails at the meter level quite often.  I have no problem with the resuilts on the Nova meter, I think it is a good result.  The connectivity "piece" and the timing of how it "talks" to RALS is what drives me crazy.

We went live with the newest Nova meters about two months ago and have been using Novanet since our rep said it was required. We use Novanet to RALS to Cerner. Yesterday overnight, we lost Novanet connectivity for the second time since going live. Since Nova’s network is currently down, they couldn’t restart the server themselves and asked me to reach out to IT to specifically restart the RTM LIS. As you can imagine my IT and LIS teams weren’t familiar with what that is, so IT just rebooted the Novanet server and that did the trick lol. Since we went live, I’ve already replaced 5 meters, apparently some of them were faulty, which we were told was not unheard of and usually gets noticed during meter configuration, So overall, it’s been an adjustment .

Here in St. Louis we use Nova Net to allows access to the strip lots and QC lots.  Not sure what everyone is doing in Novanet.  The only time I am in Novanet is to add lots or mess with meter settings-like comments or other settings like scan abilities.  That is it.  We handle results and operators in QML which sends results to EPIC.   We are not having any connection issues, but our meters are still requiring docking to download-they are not wireless.  I find it a good resource and great when working with Nova.

You need NOVA net to put meters into use, and the strip Lot numbers, along with QC.  We use RALS to keep track of the operators, patient results, and QC values.  If a patient is not found, just pick new patient override and this will force the results through the servers and into the patient hospital charts.  This is how I train the operators.  Remember those tiny meters are looking through thousands of number combos in a matter of 5 seconds.  If your patient has been in the facility longer than 1 or 2 hours, this will get the results through the cloud.
Meters need to be registered in both places.  This is how to get the best out of NOVA system/RALS
