Hello
We are currently reviewing our adult & neonate critical hypoglycemia glucose values, <40 mg/dL. Want to see what other organizations are using as values. We are addressing inconsistent policies across lab, pharmacy and nursing.

- Is anyone using different values for glucometer results vs. main lab values?
- Do you have alert values as well as critical values? Example: Critical on meter and in lab <40 mg/dL results have to be called to provider or RN within a particular time frame vs. a lab alert value of 54 mg/dL that just needs to be called to the floor and can be given to the secretary??
- Does the POCT & Lab policies list recommended follow-up are do you refer to pharmacy & nursing policies?
Please add the name of your organization to any comments.
Thank you

We were cited recently for critical results documentation. All unlicensed caregivers must report and document to a treating caregiver.
We do reference nursing policies, especially hyper and hypoglycemic protocol for glucose. We don't reference any pharmacy policies.
