Glucometer Choices

Just curious--I would like to know what other glucometers are out there besides Roche and Nova.
It seems we mostly hear about those two brands, but there have to be more.
Please tell me about your non-Roche, non-Nova glucometers. What do you like about them?
Do you recommend/not recommend them?
We are starting to think about next-generation meters for the next time the contract is up.
Thanks for your input!

We have the Abbott Precision Xceed Pro glucose meters. I do like that it is slimmer than both the Roche and the Nova meters and seems to fit better in the hand, however our end users seem to drop them regardless. I also like that the meters aren't strip lot specific, for instance, if you are running QC on multiple meters, you can use multiple lots of strips with no issue. If I remember correctly, with the Roche, all strips had to be the same lot, or the meter would make you start over. Other than that, I think most all glucometers work the same. Things I don't like about the meter: when dropped the casing cracks very easily, we replace a lot of meters that have cracks and sometimes holes in them also, the meter is not FDA approved for use on critically ill patients, because of this, we use the i-STAT in our 3 ICUs just for glucose testing.
