Those that use the Abbott Afinion 2 analyzer for A1C testing - are you reporting patient results as <4.0% and >15.0% ? Or are you NOT reporting those into your EMR and having the patient get a venous A1C done in a clinical laboratory instead? For a lower software version the device gives an information (error) code which makes me think that the result isn't valid. But on software versions higher than 21.10 - we have software version 21.14 - The user manual says to consult the package insert and the package insert says to consult the user manual. It doesn't say if those values are valid to be reported and treated on, or if they need to be confirmed via another method. What are other people doing with those < and > A1C results?Capture2.PNGCapture.PNG
Hello! We use Telcor and when there is a result >15 it will automatically be held for our team to review the chart. If there has been a lab A1c order placed and resulted then we will not chart the POC result. If it's not clear what the provider wants to do with the result we will follow up with them. We don't have a policy that directs providers when they should order a lab draw other than stating the interferences that can occur with the test method.
