Nova Statstrip Strip Disposal

Nova Biomedical Statstrip IFU states that strips should be disposed of as biohazardous waste. This contradicts our system policy due having a small amount of blood that typically could be thrown out in the normal trash. We have sharps bins in each patient room, however we do not currently have red biohazardous waste bags in each room. If your facilities use the Nova Statstrip how do you handle this?

Good Morning.  According to the package insert, it states to discard used test strips according to local regulations.  Our internal policies, like yours, state that due to the small amount of blood, they can be discarded in regular trash.

Good morning. We dispose of them in the sharps containers.

sharps containers.

Interesting, the IFU states 'biohazard waste', the strip product insert states 'follow local regulations'.

Regular trash.
