Good morning,
I am reaching out to see if any of you have encountered an issue with disinfectant requirements for glucose meters in your Wound Care Center.
Our Wound Care Center is required to use Sani-Cloth Germicidal Disposable Wipes AF3 (EPA Reg. No. 9480-9) in the chamber. However, this product is not included on the approved list of disinfectants for cleaning our Nova Biomedical glucose meters.
Nova Biomedical/NovaNet documentation states that the manufacturer recommends Clorox Healthcare® Bleach Germicidal Wipes (EPA Reg. No. 67619-12) or Super Sani-Cloth Disposable Wipes (EPA Reg. No. 9480-4) for cleaning and disinfecting the glucose meters.
Has anyone else encountered this conflict between facility disinfectant requirements and the glucose meter manufacturer's approved cleaning products?
If so, how are you handling this in your Wound Care Center? Have you been able to obtain manufacturer approval for an alternative disinfectant, or have you established another process that meets both infection prevention requirements and the manufacturer's instructions for use?
I would appreciate any feedback or guidance you can share on how your facility is managing this situation.
You could clean as recommended by Nova and then Nova has a disposable protective sleeve that the meter can go into to protect it (and the patient) from contamination. Check with your infection prevention department to see if this would meet their standards.
We were questioned by our hospital quality people about this too and Nova provided the following document. You can use any disinfecting wipe as long as it is within the EPA classification and you follow the manufacturer's disinfecting timing, is the way I understand it. Here is the document that NOVA provided. We use the purple Sani-Cloth wipe in all of our areas. CIB 01-21SS Meter Disinfection Update.pdf
