Correlation

I am working on my first correlation study and I am trying to figure out the best way to work with perfusionist to get a ACT correlation performed for our Hemochron Elites that we have in CVOR. We are also correlating to i-STAT as the backup instrument. Any suggestions?

My understanding is that the Hemochron and iStat do not correlate at all. They are two different methodologies. When we changed from Hemochron to iStat all of our ranges were different. Talk to your sales rep about this.
I would have them run side by side. They can dose both and if you are interfaced you can recover them from the middleware. If not, give them a spreadsheet to record the results for you.
Are you correlating different hemochron sig elites to each other?
Yes, every six months.

Max M. we are correlating hemochron to hemochron as well as i-STAT to hemochron.
Is anyone using the hemachron for PT/PTT, we are trying to get our studies done and I am not seeing it correlating very well?
Penny Rose
For hemochron and I-STAT, there are linearity procedures that are great for correlation ( the I-STAT and the hemochron will not correlate). You add different amounts of heparin to blood, then before testing add CaCl2.
As far as PT/PTT on the hemochron, we had such poor correlation that we scrapped that as a back up option.
Hi Amanda,
Could you please share the procedure so I can compare your procedure to ours. I am hoping to find a procedure to help correlate the analyzers. Thanks Eliza
