I am interested in knowing how other facilities are performing quality control checks on the nitrazine paper phizatest. Are you testing with different levels of pH buffer that covers the range of 7-7.5 (pH of amniotic fluid) or is there another methold? Do you QC everyday of testing?
If you use pH buffers where do you order your from?
Thank you for any information or suggestions.
Judy

Hi Judy,
We use pH buffers from Ricca Chemical company, 5.0 and 7.0. We were just using the 7.0 but a TJC surveyor long ago 'suggested' we use a 5.0 also as the 'Negative' control so we added that. Rule is to run controls every day 'of patient testing'. If they do not have any patients that day, they don't have to run them. It has been working well.
Hope this helps!
Lois
Thank you for your response. I thought that would be the way to monitor the testing, but wasn't sure if pH of 7.0 was high enough.
