Nova StatStrip and CAP 2WB2-B 2016
CIB 03-16SS Whole Blood Glucose Survey.pdf
Nova StatStrip Users:
The CAP participant summary for the whole blood glucose survey 2WB2-B 2016 came back with a negative bias on most of the meters tested for my hospital. I realize I am late in the game with this as I did not receive the mailed CAP Participant Summary to prompt an investigation.
I called CAP and was told that Nova reformulated the test strips. CAP also stated the sample material has not changed.
When I called Nova I was told the CAP sample material has caused a matrix effect and that it is not the test strips. They instructed me to run the samples in proficiency mode but this was not in the CAP directions. Nova also suggested switching to API for proficiency testing. I no longer have the samples. Nova did publish a bulletin in March, which is attached.
What are the other labs doing regarding this problem? I have run linearity studies on each meter and have gone over QC data. There were no problems identified.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

We were having similar issues last year with our Nova glucometers and unacceptable grades. I also read the bulletin regarding the materials and decided to try API. We purchased API materials towards the end of the year and 2017, no issues so far. With the exception of ACT+ proficiency, I've discontinued using CAP materials and now use API.
