PPM Proficiency Testing

Good Morning

I would like to know how Laboratories with PPM testing handle proficiency testing failures.  Does anyone have a policy that addresses these PT failures done by physicians?  If so, can you send me a copy?

Thank You

When we have a PPM failure, I will meet with the provider and use old proficiency testing pictographs to review the element missed on the PT event.  We use AAFP for PPM and I have quite a few year's worth of old data available.  I also provide each office with a copy of the AAFP POL Microscopy Atlas so they have an in-house reference.  And, of course, there's usually good pictures on the internet now.  If, after remediation with me, they fail another event within a specified time, we require them to arrange training from an outside source.  We recommend a few options.  Thankfully, now that we have this policy, most providers don't repeat failures often.  Previously, they just weren't paying attention and giving it the time it requires so would either glance and guess or enter something wrong as they submitted results because they were distracted.  In the very rare instance someone fails after outside education, they have testing revoked for a period of time (or they voluntarily stop testing-not worth the effort).  Our number of failures seems to be decreasing, thank heavens!

Is there a way you can send me a copy of your policy?  I need to come up with one.  Thank You

I am struggling with this same issue. Outside training sounds promising. What resources do you use for outside training? I have tried the MTS system but have not had much success.
