To all,
Who out there uses the ISTAT in a NICU that is at least Level 4 for blood gases? How do you handle METHHGB for Nitrous Oxide treatment?
I know that you are out there….I need some data-as many of you that can please let me know….the more data the better.
Please call me at the number below or drop me a line. Thanks.

We are a level 4 NICU and only have iSTATs for gases on the unit. Co-Ox is done in lab on the phOx

Deanna- besides iSTAT's, we have two Radiometer ABL80's that measure Co-Oximeter.
Same as Silka and Susan. Run gases on unit and run methemoglobin's on Radiometer Co-Ox in lab.
Per our Manager of Respiratory:
Hi Silka,
Thanks for the question. It is rare that a Methemoglobin is ordered for our patients on Nitric Oxide. From my knowledge the turnaround time has not been an issue. I’ve even asked the most senior nurses and none of them have ever given Methylene blue due to methemoglobinemia. Hope that helps
Kind regards,
Ben
