Using expired reagents for training only

I am curious if there is any documentation saying that it is unacceptable to use expired reagents or QC material for training purposes only? Would you still have to abide by all manufacturer recommendations including maintenance if you are only using an instrument for training?

We just write on expired stuff for “training only”

From a safety perspective, the expirations indicate best outcome and quality of equipment and results.  That being said so long as you are not testing patients and results are not crossing to medical records expired items can be used, however the JC requires all such items to be clearly and visibly labeled as such "training" materials.
