Is anyone using a blood gas analyzer to do total bilirubin on their NICU unit? We have a new neonatologist who wants to do total bilirubin using a blood gas analyzer. Any helpful information would be appreciated.

Hello Charlene, my name is Brian and I am the blood gas rep for Siemens. Our Rapid Point 500 Blood Gas Analyzer tests bilirubin in the POC setting. Please feel free to contact me if you would like any further information.

We use the ABL 90 instruments in our NICU areas for blood gas and bilis. They are managed by the RT department. I believe they are working out quite well
We use the Siemens Rapid Point 500 analyzers and are in the process of adding nBili to our test menu awaiting test and billing code build from IT. Method comparison for the Whole Blood bilirubin indicates slightly higher values than serum bilirubin run on the main lab analyzers so there will be a comment added to all nBili results run on the RP500s.
