Nova StatStrip in the NICU

It appears that the premature infants tend to get venous lines in NICU.  We have a new neonatologist who wants to be able to do glucoses using the Nova StatStrip from these lines.  Has anyone one else encounter this request?  What was your approach to this request since the Nova StatStrip is supposed to be used for Neonatal arterial or capillary.

It is off label use so no.

You could actually have that provider do a study with venous samples to validate it for your facility. It would be considered an LDT, high complexity, but that's not an issue if the doc is the one doing the test. Usually they will opt out of doing that, but I offer as an option. It's funny though, Nova markets their device that it can be used on anyone, anywhere and everywhere now. Most people don't read the fine print.
