ROM Testing

In the past we had our OB staff using the Amnisure test for ROM.  We ran into several issues with the test and it was decided to eliminate the testing.  The OB/GYN physicians are now asking for the ROM testing to be reinstated to cut down on the number of fern tests they are doing.  Can anyone that tests for ROM tell me what you are using and any Pros or Cons from your experience?  Thanks for your insights.

We use ROM+ by clinical innovations in our OBED.  We have told the doctors that they still have to confirm results with other testing such as nitrazine, ferning , vaginal exam etc.  We will see an occasional false positives towards the end of the pregnancy , around 38 weeks.

My advice....move the ROM to the lab and eliminate fern testing totally. We also eliminated nitrazine pH at the same time..

We use to have the Nurses and Dr.'s do the fern and Nitrazine, testing. The problems we had was competency testing for all involved especially the Physician's.  That led us to go to using Amni-sure, we decided that the nurse's would collect the specimen and bring it to the Lab to be run. That decision was made so that we could control the testing and the billing aspect. Once it was implemented the fern and nitrazine testing was eliminated. So far it has gone well and the Dr.'s are happy with the choice.

We used to have Nitrazine performed by nursing staff but changed several years ago to the ROM+.  When a test is needed, L&D calls the Lab, we tube them a collection device, they collect and send to Lab, we perform the test.

We are moving AmniSures to the lab and will be requiring them to be ordered as laboratory tests. The OB staff will have to pick up the collection material, leaving the testing strip behind with the tech. Once returned, the test is performed by the tech and resulted manually in our LIS (SoftLab).

We also allow for fern testing but those also have to be brought back to lab for resulting.

Anyone having problems with nursing staff doing daily QC for amnisure and being compliant? I need some suggestions on how to work around this.
