Liquid controls for Troponin

Hi Everyone! For those of you running Troponins in the ED using iSTATs, are you using the manufacturer’s recommendation of liquid controls every month or are you requiring them more frequently? We run about 300 tests a month.

We follow The monthly QC protocol as listed in our IQCP.
We follow our IQCP of running liquid QC every month.
The ER personnel who are authorized to do troponin, do them.
We run liquid QC on: 1) New Lot
2) New shipment
3) monthly
4) or when troubleshooting.
We have an IQCP and perform QC upon shipment with new lots and when troubleshooting.

Where did you find the Abbott recommendation for QC to be done every month?

Hi Brian - - that was directly from my Abbott rep - - he said it was manufacturer’s recommendation but to follow our QC protocols. I am searching for that now
in writing from Abbott. Will let you know what I find.

We run with new shipment, monthly and if needed for troubleshooting. I do not know of any Abbott recommendation for this. Most of us were already doing monthly AC when equivalent QC was around and just continued the process with the implementation of IQCP.
You can refer to I-STAT Technical Bulletin "The i-STAT System Manufacturer's Quality System Instructions (for U.S.A. Laboratories only). We run controls with each new shipment and refrigerated cartridge monthly checks (just found out that we are doing over kill since only 1 cartridge is needed/month, not 2).
