Anyone know if there are any POCT devices that perform this? I heard of the ThermoFisher one but that it is not approved in the US as of now,
Does anyone know of anything out there?
Thanks!

The Biomerieux Vidas does PCT
WE got Biomerieux Vidas to do procalcitonin.
It is not a POC instrument. It is massive.
We do the PCT in the lab.
We limit some of the POC available outside the lab.
It gets expensive if we cater to convenience and
really not make a difference in patient care at that instant .
PCT is not a 10 minute test. Send it to the lab.
Your nurses will love you. They don’t want another lab test to do.
Hey Pet, no wonder your nursing staff gave you a bouquet of roses during last week's nursing week! haha just teasing (although you deserved so they should have).
I support your statement that it's OK to limit POC in some cases. Use a case by case basis of approval. That's why we all use 'requests for adding POCT' to dig out the justifications, right?
Thanks Pet.
Amen to that Peggy!
Hello All,
Does anyone have updated information on BRAHMS Procalcitonin testing as to any true POC platform that can be used in ED environments and is approved for use in the U.S.?
PCT is a very key test that can determine a patients life, it has to be done correctly and the lab is the best place. The Vidas is a very consistent reliable instrument that has been doing the Brahams test for years . The company has reagent programs to help you out.

Thank you so much for feedback!
Yes, I looked into the Vidas instrumentation and that is great info on reliability. Leadership was inquiring as to a handheld device platform versus even the small tabletop Vidas & dealing w/ wait times for lab-based platforms. Our thoughts were exactly along your lines in that accuracy of data is paramount!
