Lancet Expiration Date

Has anyone created a policy regarding using lancets by their expiration date ?
This JUST came up in a Safety meeting today. Maybe I'm just old but I didn't even realize they had expiration dates. I don't think they used to.
Bottom line, does anyone have a policy regarding this ?
TIA

Hi Sue,
No, we don't have and aren't going to create a policy for lancet expirations. We just audit for it as we do for all the tubes and all the nursing supplies and the POC stuff that has expiration dates --- it's just one more thing to audit.
The policy is just an across the board 'do not use expired meds, products, etc.'
So you just audit the box. My thoughts exactly but "some people" want to make a big issue.
Thanks
WE aliquot the lancets into small plastic Ziploc bags.
We write the lot # and expiration dates.
These aliquot are placed in the supply totes for glucose meters
It was a nursing policy. I did not know if it was written.
I never looked for the policy. I will now.
