Istat patient ID error - conundrum

Hi all,


Has anyone ever had an issue with the Istat having ID discrepencies?  Backstory...


We have had this issue atleast once before



  • the patient was ID'd by armband, the patient armband was scanned by the operator,

  • the correct patient name and DOB appeared on the Istat screen for verification from the ADT. 

  • When the results were downloaded the account number that was attached to the result belonged do a discharged patient. 

  • The results posted to the discharged patient EMR and was flagged by billing (because the patient was discharged when the sample was taken). 

  • I printed the results from the Istat and it had the incorrect account number with the correct patient information.


I have sent this issue to Abbott but have not heard any response except that it has been escalated.  I wanted to know if anyone has ever come across this type of issue or if you have any ideas on why this might have happened.
