Allowing Nursing to edit POC results in EPIC.

We just realized that nursing has the ability to edit POC results in EPIC.

Has anyone in this group encountered this issue?  I cannot think of any reason that they should have the ability to do this.

Our nurses have this ability also. The situation I have seen it useful for is when they scan the strip vial or their operator badge for a glucose and it gets held up in RALS. I have them manually order and enter it. If they have to correct it, then they are a little more careful.

Also if a unit manually enters a creatinine from the Istat, or hemoglobin from the Hemocue and enter it wrong, it is on them to do the corrections.

Do you meant edit (amend) EPIC results that were entered by nursing using enter/edit? Or do you mean connected results?

If nursing is using enter/edit for manual orders/results then to my understanding, having nursing edit results is the only way to correct if an error is made.

Peggy I was referring to interfaced POC results that are finalized in EPIC.

At our hospital interfaced results go middleware > Beaker > Epic. Nurses do not have access to Beaker and have to notify POCT of any correction needed via a signed result correction form.

Nurses do have access to enter/edit for noninterfaced testing.

At my institution we have RALS>Beaker>Epic. If they test the wrong patient for an interfaced test, The POCT department goes into Beaker to add a comment that this result does not belong to the patient and that is was test in error. We never delete a result  once it has hit the patient's chart. We also do not have the ability to put the results on the correct patient's chart. It was the way our system was built.
