Cobas IT Middlewae

Hi!
I am interested in people's opinion of Cobas IT for their middleware. I currently am a RALS web user and am very happy with RALS. My institution is looking at the Cobas IT because of the cost savings so I wanted to find out if users liker it or not. I would especially be interested in hearing from people that had RALS and switched to Cobas IT or left Cobas IT and now have RALS.
Thanks,
Dianne

I switched to Cobas IT for cost savings as well. I had been RALS. I will be transitioning to TELCOR in the next year.
What takes you 3 keystrokes in RALS, will take you 6 or more in Cobas IT. It is difficult to track meters in Cobas. Support staff has been good to work with, just seems like I have had to call them quite a bit. But not sure if that is Cobas of the Inform
II.

We have recently switched from Cobas IT1000 to RALS and we have been very impressed with the increase functionality of RALS. We felt very limited with tracking meters and monitoring the last time a meter communicated. Cobas was a fairly new product when we started using it, we still needed telcor for our results to go to the chart. We went through many growing pains but their customer support was very helpful.

I would love to hear more on this subject matter....our hospital presently uses RALS and my boss is interested in moving to TelCor. Someone promised him the notion of no additional fees ever.. which he really liked. Unfortunately since we use the Accuchek Inform II we'd also need to purchase Cobas from the looks of it too. I presently love RALS and have everything I need at my fingertips...if more could please list the Pros and Cons it be appreciated.
Alayna, If you have RALS, I would NOT switch to Telcor. We are long-time Telcor users. What your manager was told about fees is totally incorrect; Telcor charges quite a lot for each device driver.
Having had both RALS and Telcor, I would say that in terms of cost, they are both really similar. I switched to Telcor several years ago, and I believe it depends on what kind of contract you have with them. My chief complaint about RALS was the way their contracts were structured, where every year I had multiple different sites, devices, etc. It is also true that with Telcor, if you are using the Roche Inform II meters, you will need to also purchase cobas IT 1000 to manage the meters. This was not something I had expected, and it's been a huge challenge for us.
My advice would be to talk with both vendors, having a specific list of questions and functions that are important to you, and see how they compare, both in functionality and cost.
