Position Title - Salary Question
Good Morning,
My organization is looking to add a POC position and possible reclassify the one we already have. I was wondering if any one would be willing to share their job classification and possibly their pay scale.
Are you considered a coordinator? Supervisor? Manager? Lead Tech? Administrator? Where on the leadership scale does your position fall? Do you report to a lab manager or director? Do you have any staff that directly report to you? Are you hourly or salary? What is the pay scale for your position?
Also approximately how many POC tests does your organization perform each year? Or how many POC operators are within your organization?
I know that there are a lot of questions but any information that you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Kelly VanWagner

We are a 188 bed community hospital that employs approx. 1700 staff.
I am a coordinator, who reports directly to my lab director. My pay scale is equivocal to that of our technical specialist/supervisors within the lab. This position is considered lab Administration and is salary. I have no support staff that report to me. I do work closely with our clinical nurse educators who maintain our training and competency program for POC. Our BioMed department handles glucose meter, urine and HA1C instrument repair. Our purchasing and distribution departments handle all consumables. Initial equipment and reagent purchasing is coordinated through me.
I oversee the POC testing that is performed in house as well as that performed in our clinics (that are within our health system). I am unsure of the number of POC staff (all of our testing is CLIA waived, each RN,LNA and tech can perform testing once trained). We perform POC glucose, strep, urine preg, urine dip (both visual and on instruments), HA1C, occult/gastric occult, nitrazine, RightSpot and I have a few PPM sites. We do approximately 55,000 glucose tests a year on 35 glucose meters. I am currently tracking Upreg and Udip numbers. Strep testing was removed from the ER (was 600/yr) so we are down to minimal testing now in our ENT office and Employee health.
I can email you my Job description if you would like.
I am the first person to hold this job which I took July of 2018. There has never been an established POCC prior.

Hi Kelly,
I work for a large health system in the center of town. I am considered a Coordinator and report to a Supervisor as well as a Manager. We have a starting salary of 65k and are required to have a Bachelor's degree; A.S.C.P. certification is not required. There is a team of 6 of us and most came from the Laboratory setting.
We have approximately 1400+ blood gas users and 4100+ blood glucose users. Just at our one facility.
