Non PPM microscopic tests

I have a provider who is using the microscope for looking at prostate fluid (Not semen present/absent). My understanding is that this is a high complexity test? Or would it still be moderate? Are the listed PPM tests the only ones considered moderate? Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance? How is the test competency handled differently if it is high complexity? (the CLIA is for cert of compliance)
Thank you for any help

I heard back from our state DOH person and she says they consider this test a wet mount and should be treated compliance wise as PPM. Weird. The provider was specifically looking for WBC, RBC, fatty globules, sperm, and bacteria.
Hi Jill,
I would defiantly get that sent to you in an email with the persons info attached to it lol. That way you can pull it out in an inspection if you need to.
Hello Jill,
I have a provider in one of the Urology Practices (PPM) that is performing the same test. It is billed as a wet prep. The doctor is performing a prostate massage for a drop or two of fluid and assessing whether there is >10 WBC/HPF to rule out prostatitis. It is the same as a vaginal wet prep looking for an infectious process.
All this being said, I am struggling with finding a procedure and competency assessments, too!
If you find anything or I find something can we share?!
Thank you
Amanda - Yes! I will for sure share if/when I find something. I haven't written my PPM procedures yet, so when I write the wet mount procedure I will stick in a section for prostate fluid exam as well as vaginal. There are so many projects and there is so little time :)
