Lab Assistant

Do any of your sites have a lab assistant? If so, what types of things are they expected to do? We are looking at creating this position in our lab, and wanted to see if this was a successful option for other sites.

Thank you,

Cindy

Yes we have lab assistants called clinical lab techs and they are awesome.  They process the specimens, perform ABGs, and we are going to start them on kit tests in Micro.  They make a little bit more money than a Phleb and it is usually our Senior Phlebs that move to clinical lab tech.

Thank you Ronda! What specific kit tests are you going to have them do? Do you currently have them doing any point of care testing?

They run istats and ABGs on the ABL80s.  The kit tests will be Sofia FluA&B, Quidel Strep and Quidel RSV to begin with.  My email is Ronda.Owen@bswhealth.org if you need more information.

We use Laboratory Assistants at our facility.  Alere FLU A/B, RSV, Strep A, Urine dipsticks, Micro setup, Micro Campy test, Load instruments, Cephid, Biofire, process and manage sendout test.
