Blood Glucose Meter Isolation Sleeve

Wondering if anyone is using isolation sleeves/bags for blood glucose meters on patients on droplet precaution. Looking for literature/studies regarding the effectiveness of their use.

Thanks!

We have NOVA Meters.  WE have always used plastic sleeves over the meters in isolation rooms. But we still disinfect the meter after use even after they were "sleeved".

After reading in the CLP Magazine  that the virus can be detected 3 hours after aerosol; 4 hours on copper,; 24 hours on cardboard and up to 2-3 hours on plastic and stainless steel, we are glad we have trained everyone to use plastic sleeve.

One cannot be too careful with this virus. PPE..PPE..PPE

What type of sleeves are you using and are they specific for the NOVA meter. I am looking for sleeves for AccuChek.

Thanks

Roche actually has their own isolation sleeves for the Accuchek Inform meters.

WE bought NOVA plastic sleeves before. But due to the cost, now we use the specimen transport bags.

I don't think those bags are specific for the meters.

We use the isolation bags from Abbott for the PxP. Still must use approved cleaning procedure when removing the meter from the bag.

Does anyone have any information about isolation bags for Accuchek Inform II?

Spoke with Roche. Unfortunately they no longer make isolation sleeves and do not have any recommendations at this time.

We're not using isolation sleeves here - I checked with Infection control and they are recommending standard protocols of disinfecting after each use as always.

A perfect size bag to use would be ones from your blood bank if they use them to place FFP units in for thawing. We have ones from Helmer - the Plasma Overwrap

They are still available in Canada. Here is a reply (today) from my account executive for Roche. We still disinfect the devices as per infection control policy after use and removal of sleeve.

  Hello Kathy,

I touched base with our Product Manager - we are still selling isolation sleeves for the Accuchek Inform II.

We are in a backorder situation right now due to Covid-19, but I was told that Roche Canada just placed a big order and that we should receive the sleeves in 5 to 6 weeks.
